First word
They say that time flies when you're having fun. Well, I must be having a fantastic year because I seem to always be writing this column for The Woking Magazine! Where does the time go?
As this issue testifies, there are plenty of busy people out there in the Borough. In the features section, key representatives from the business community talk about their experiences of the credit crunch and what they are doing to tackle it. You will also find details for the police and Council officers who are working together in the Borough's nine neighbourhoods to ensure that they remain clean, green and safe. And we catch up with Woking's new Mayor as she embarks on what will inevitably be a very busy year.
Also in this issue, we hear from two local charities, both of which rely on the enthusiasm and commitment of volunteers to help people who sometimes find themselves on the fringes of society. Link Leisure and Surrey Care Trust are both on the lookout for volunteers, so if you can spare some time, why not consider getting in touch to see how you might be of assistance.
As always with the summer issue, there are plenty of reasons to get outdoors and enjoy the better weather and longer days. In `Out and about' you will find a walk around the pretty town of Godalming which is just a short train ride away. If you're a dog owner, you are no doubt already enjoying the chance to get out on some long rambles, but please do heed the advice of the Council's Dog Warden and make sure you clean up after your hound.
If art and culture are more your scene, check out our regular `What's on' pages and keep your eyes open for some fantastic exhibitions at The Lightbox - it's not every day that Leonardo da Vinci comes to Woking!
Make the most of the summer. Blink and you might miss it!
