Why don't you..?

Why don't you…take up surfing?

If you're looking to book a holiday, catch up with old friends, browse a bookshop or simply do your weekly shop, you can do it all at the touch of a button.

The information super highway is here - and surfing the internet could change your life!

Free internet access

You don't need to spend a fortune to join the internet revolution. There are various locations across the Borough where you can get free, up-to-the-minute access to the internet.

The Borough's four libraries (Byfleet, Knaphill, West Byfleet and Woking), all have public computers with internet access. To surf the net, you will need to have a library card and know your PIN number - all available from your nearest library. Sessions last one hour and must be booked in person or by phoning 0300 200 1001. If you are not familiar with the computers or the internet, library staff can help you get started.

You can also view selected websites via the Council's touch-screen Kiosks. These provide you with easy access to information about the Borough and its services via an easy-to-use free-standing console. Kiosks are located at various sites across the Borough, including the Civic Offices, The Lightbox, Citizens' Advice Bureau and centres for the community.

Computer courses

For those who are in need of a helping hand, tutored computer courses are available. Whether you wish to learn how use search engines, send emails or simply to discover more about the internet, there's a course suitable for your needs and interests.

Courses take place at three Council-run centres for the community (Moorcroft in Westfield, Parkview in Sheerwater, St Mary's in Byfleet). For a small fee, students can learn how to make life easier through practical day-to-day computers use.
